Part 4.4 GS - Functional Group Header

GS - Functional Group Header
  • A Group Envelope contains the same set of transactions grouped in a pair of segments that are sent to a trading partner.
  • A functional group contains the same group of transactions.
  • We do not have different Transaction sets in a Functional group
  • The maximum number of functional groups in an interchange is 99,999.
  • Total 8 Elements with 82 bytes (varies).
List of GS Element
  1. Element 1 - Functional Group ID (PO - Purchase Order)
  2. Element 2 - Sender Information (ID) 
    • It could be same as ISA 6th element or different.
  3. Element 3 - Receiver Information (ID)
    • It should match with ISA 8th Elements.
  4. Element 4 - Date (CC/YY/MM/DD)
  5. Element 5 - Time (HH/MM or HH/MM/SS, 24 Hours Format)
  6. Element 6 - Functional Group Control Number
    • It indicates that it belongs to the same trading partner.
    • It could match ISA 13th Elements or different.
    • It should match with GE 2nd Elements.
  7. Element 7 - Responsible Agency Code
    • “X” - ANSI ASC X12
    • “T” - TDCC
  8. Element 8 - Group Version Number
    • It will have to match with ISA 12th Elements.
